Description

The village is located in the Ardennes, a natural and cultural region that spans the Belgian, French, Luxembourg and German territories. In the second half of the 18th century, it became one of the most important industrial centres in Europe.

In 1802, the old vonêchoise glassworks was developed by Aimé-Gabriel d’Artigues, from the glassworks that had existed there since 1778. Although it was a real success and had more than 650 workers, nothing remains of it today. Nevertheless, it is interesting to know that those who created the old vonêchoise glassworks were the ones who developed it in 1802, from the glassworks that had existed there since 1778, by Aimé-Gabriel d’Artigues. Although it was a real success and had more than 650 workers, nothing remains of it today. Nevertheless, it is interesting to know that those who created, in 1826, the famous Liège crystal factory of Val Saint-Lambert were none other than Kemlin and Lelièvre, former directors at Vonêche.

The castle of Vonêche

Privately owned and inhabited by Baron d’Huart, this castle was built by Aimé Gabriel d’Artigues, who was the owner of the former crystal factory, in 1806. In front of the castle is a vast park where the buildings of the crystal factory were located.

The old watering hole

This set of three tubs, one of which is circular, dates from the 19th century. It is made of blue stone.

The church

Built in 1845, this church is dedicated to Saint-Denis. It was built on land donated by the former owner of the crystal factory, Mr. d’Artigues.

Good to know:

  • there is an outdoor playground
  • there is a nature reserve (visitable only with Natagora guides): https://famenne.natagora.be/reserve-naturelle-de-voneche
